Transformation Tuesday

Like every other female, Pinterest has me convinced that I can turn any piece of junk into a custom-made treasure. This week is no different.

I was walking along the side of the road with Lady Belle, just minding my own business, when I came across this treasure.

And, of course, by treasure I mean this hideous looking corkboard that someone covered in this dreadful color of lavender. It practically begged me to take it home and fix it up... and so, I did just that.

First, I covered the cork with a few coats of chalkboard spray paint that I had leftover from my chalkboard globe project. I really liked the idea of having the board be multipurpose (it's both a corkboard and a chalkboard now). The cork was a lot more porous than I anticipated so it took a couple of heavy sprays to get a nice even coat.

Next, I used one of the many atlases that I inherited from my-great grandmother to cover the cheap frame. From a distance it's very subtle but it makes for a really cool detail when you look at the board close up. Plus, it fits in with our travel themed office/guestroom perfectly.

Once it was all dry, I added a Dr. Seuss quote the board using a chalk pen. I also added a few scrapbook stickers that I found while cleaning the closet and pictures from my trip to France and England.

And presto!

I'm really happy with how the final outcome of this project. It fits in with the guestroom decor perfectly! Can't wait to show you my next project for the guest room (hint it's yet another trash to treasure project)!
