4 strips of bacon
1 large sweet onion, sliced thin
1/2 teaspoon of sugar
1/4 teaspoon of sea salt
1/2 teaspoon of Texas Pete hot sauce
1/2 teaspoon of thyme
1 cup of shredded Swiss Gruyere cheese
1/2 cup of sour cream
1/2 cup of mayo (not pictured)
1/4 teaspoon of black pepper
Instructions.
1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees
2. Cook bacon in a large nonstick skillet. Once cooked, place the bacon on a paper towel lined plate to cool. Crumble.
3. Add onions, sugar and salt to the bacon fat in the skillet. Cook over medium-high heat for about 5 minutes. Reduce heat to medium and cook, stirring often, until onions turn a deep brown. This may take between 15-20 minutes.
4. Stir in thyme and Tabasco. Remove from heat.
5. In a medium size bowl, mix together sour cream and mayo. Add crumbled bacon, cheese, onion mixture and black pepper. Mix together and transfer to a baking dish. If you want your dip to be extra golden brown, bake it in your skillet.
6. Bake 20 minutes, or until bubbly.
Serve with: Baguette, bagel chips or apple slices. Left overs would be amazing on top of a steak, a burger or a baked potato.
