Snorkeling in Bonaire
Bonaire was everything we could have imagined and then some. The island is largely inhabited by Dutch immigrants who are probably some of the most incredibly and genuinely nice people in the world.
We arrived in Bonaire at around two and immediately boarded a vessel called the Seacow for our excursion. We left Kralendik and sailed off to Klein Bonaire ("Little Bonaire"), a small island off of the main island. Surrounding the tiny island was an absolutely gorgeous reef. Our Dutch guides took the time to point out the various species of fish. We saw "Christmas Tree Worms", French Angelfish, Needle Fish, tons of Blue Tangs and countless other species of animals. Our favorite part was watching the sea turtles gracefully swim about and seeing two puffer fish chase each other around the reef.
We had an excellent time snorkeling the two reefs our guides took us to. The only down side of our day was the fact we didn't get to explore much of the island of Bonaire because our tour lasted so long. By the time we got back to Bonaire, darkness had already fallen. We were only really able to explore the touristy shops.
Our arrival marked the first time Carnival visited the island of Bonaire. In honor of our visit, the Board of Tourism hosted an outdoor party with live music and an outdoor market. It was a great way to end a lovely day! I have a feeling we will most definitely be back!
