Parker's First Boo Boo
If you've ever had a chance to meet Parker, you already know how much of a free spirit she is. She likes hunting, wrestling and causing trouble. She's a rough and rowdy little pup and prefers the company of her lab friends over other dogs her size. She's tough and most definitely can hold her own. So you can imagine how terrified we were when we heard her piercing cries from the backyard.
Parker and Lady Belle's bestest buddies, Layla and Kingston, are staying with us for a few days while their mommy is away. The four of them had been wrestling, running around the backyard and having a blast playing with one another. After a long day, we let the pups out one last time and got ready to go to bed.
Something, and we're not exactly sure what, happened to Parker while she was outside. Our first instinct was snake bite, especially since she loves messing with critters she finds, but we also thought she could have hurt herself on a piece of fencing.
When we brought her inside we noticed her paw was bloody and there was a large puncture wound between the webbing of two of her toes. It was a little swollen but she allowed us to touch it and clean it, which made us lean towards something other than a snake bite. To be sure, we rushed across town to the Animal Emergency Room. The doctor didn't think it was snake bite, but she couldn't be certain. If it was, it wasn't a poisonous snake. Unfortunately, since the cut was so deep, but too small to stitch, they clipped the webbing where she was injured.
Parker is tough. She immediately tried walking on her injured paw and maintained her cheerful disposition. Tail wagging, we left the hospital with antibiotics in hand.
Lady Belle, Layla and Kingston have been very concerned about her. LB and Kingston laid by her side on the bed much of the morning. As I'm typing this Layla is sleeping on the floor right under Parker, who is on the couch.
They even left her alone while she enjoyed her ice cream!
We're optimistic that Parker will be back to her usual self soon. Those frogs and lizards better enjoy their break while they can because Parker will be back on the prowl in no time!
